Our 40mm Crushed Rock Road Base is a coarse brown crushed rock with fines, designed for deeper base construction and heavier-duty rural applications where a larger stone provides a stronger foundation.
This product is a 40mm NDCR (Non-Descript Crushed Rock). It is a general-purpose quarry product rather than a Class 3 specification material, making it a practical and economical choice for farm tracks, gateways, soft ground and deeper driveway bases.
The combination of coarse stone and fines helps the material lock together when correctly laid, moisture-conditioned and compacted.
Use 40mm road base when you need more depth and foundation strength than a standard 20mm surface layer provides. It is particularly useful on new driveways, softer ground and areas carrying heavier vehicles.
Ideal for:
For many driveway projects, 40mm road base is best used as the lower foundation layer, then topped with our 20mm Crushed Rock Road Base for a finer, more compact finished surface.
Choose our 20mm Premium Class 3 - Blue Crushed Rock where you need to match an existing blue-grey driveway, prefer a more refined appearance, or your project specifically requires Class 3 material.
20mm Brown Road Base
Best-value general-purpose option for most driveway and base jobs.
40mm Brown Road Base
Best for deeper foundations, soft ground, farm tracks and heavy-use areas.
20mm Premium Class 3 Blue/Grey
Best for matching existing blue-grey driveways, customers wanting a more refined finish, or jobs specifically requiring Class 3 material.
Please note: Crushed rock is a natural quarry product, so colour and appearance can vary slightly between loads. NDCR products are general-purpose quarry materials and are not Class 3 specification products. Class 3 contains fines by design to assist compaction. Where material is required for an engineered, council or other specified project, customers should confirm the required material specification before ordering.
