Vacuum the tank base

We use portable suction and vacuum equipment to remove settled sludge and sediment from the bottom of the tank.

Rinse accessible areas

We rinse the inlet and filter basket where accessible and check for obvious access or condition issues.

Leave your system ready

Equipment is rinsed and packed away, the lid is secured and the job details can be recorded for your next service.

Expect some water loss. The clean is designed to avoid fully draining the tank, but approximately 20–30% water loss may occur depending on the amount of sludge and material at the tank base.

Do I need to empty the tank first?

No. The Essential service is designed to remove settled sludge without completely emptying the tank in normal conditions. Some water loss is expected.

How much does an Essential tank clean cost?

Essential cleaning starts at $160 for tanks up to 5,000L. The price increases by tank-size band up to 50,000L. Any travel fee is calculated at checkout based on your location and shown before payment.

How often should a rainwater tank be cleaned?

As a practical maintenance guide, check your tank for sludge every 2–3 years. Tanks near trees, dust, heavy leaf fall or contamination sources may need attention sooner. Victoria Health recommends regular monitoring and maintenance of private water supplies and says tanks should never be entered. Read the Victorian guidance →

Can I add sanitiser treatment?

Yes. TankSafe treatment can be added by choosing the same tank-size band as your Essential clean. Prices currently range from $18 to $178 depending on tank size.

Does cleaning guarantee that my tank water is safe to drink?

No. Cleaning and optional sanitiser treatment are part of good maintenance, but water quality also depends on your roof, gutters, screens, first-flush system, filters, tank condition and ongoing testing.

What if I have more than one tank?

Yes. Use the quantity selector for tanks in the same size band. If your tanks are different sizes, add each tank size separately and include the access details for each tank in the checkout notes.

Can I arrange a water top-up after cleaning?

Yes. We provide bulk water delivery across the Hills and can help coordinate a top-up after the clean. It is not always necessary, but it can be convenient when the clean has reduced your stored water or during dry periods. View water delivery options →
